Circular furniture

Learn more about Nordic efforts to use public procurement as a tool to create eco-friendly and sustainable furniture. This sub-project seeks to lessen the reality of mass-produced furniture which has significant negative effects on the climate and environment.

Many organizations have a large potential to reduce their climate emissions in furniture procurements by doing more circular and climate friendly public procurements. This can be hard for one organization to do alone, however this project seeks to be a platform for learning and exchanging of experiences.

In December 2021, the project arranged the Nordic Circular Furniture Dialogue Conference with a range of public buyers and market actors. An object for this conference was to increase knowledge on circular furniture in general, but also for the market to present their circular solutions and for public buyers to present their upcoming circular furniture needs. According to a follow-up survey, 5 public buyers reported that their participation at the dialogue conference led to a public procurement.

The project has established a Big Buyers group to share experiences and cooperate on this topic. This group will continue to work together and find areas where we can facilitate closer cooperation.

Goals

  • Increase cooperation and experience exchange across the Nordics.
  • Increase knowledge on making more circular and climate friendly furniture procurements.
  • Facilitate innovative furniture procurements.
